Barry Callebaut
Barry Callebaut implements a dedicated planning tool to automate waiting times and tank storage details during chocolate testing, improving efficiency and reducing human error.

The challenge
The challenge
Following a 2022 salmonella incident that caused a 70-day factory shutdown, the company introduced additional salmonella testing, adding 24 hours to production lead times.
This created significant storage and logistics challenges, particularly for Benelux deliveries with lead times of just 3 to 4 hours, limited tank capacity, and highly customised production requirements.

The solution
The solution
Barry Callebaut partnered with valueXstream to optimise tank and truck use during chocolate testing.
The valueXstream designed a blueprint for the most cost-effective way to hold the chocolate and then developed a planning tool automating the logistics process, providing staff one version of truth to guide storage and shipment decisions.

“Working with valueXstream has been a great experience. They’re reliable and transparent, and I really appreciate the open and honest discussions I’ve been able to have with them. The planning-expert assigned to us from valueXstream was intelligent, collaborative and brought valuable new ideas to the table.”
